Environmental policy

Introduction
Tappin’ In Ltd is committed to minimising its environmental impact while delivering high-quality performing arts projects. As a small, not-for-profit organisation without a physical base, we work with freelancers and local partners to ensure our activities are environmentally responsible and sustainable.

Our Environmental Commitment
One of our core principles is to have as little impact on the environment as possible. To achieve this, we will:

  1. Prioritise Local Activities and Engagement

    • Run locally based activities for local communities to reduce travel impact.

    • Where possible recruit from the areas we are working in particularly from areas local to participant groups.

    • Work with facilitators from local partner organisations to minimise travel requirements.

  2. Sustainable Travel Practices

    • Encourage active travel and the use of public transport among our creative teams.

    • Promote shared travel for creative team members where feasible.

    • Arrange shared participant travel to events to lower individual carbon footprints.

    • Organise local sharings of work to reduce the need for audiences to travel long distances.

  3. Minimising Waste and Resource Use

    • Reuse assets from previous projects and keep branding simple and non-location-specific for reusability.

    • Hire or borrow equipment and materials where possible to avoid unnecessary purchases.

    • Donate tap shoes to participants for continued use or to local dance schools for future projects.

    • Use simple, reusable costumes, ordering only what is needed based on accurate sizing and saving unused items for future projects.

  4. Sustainable Production and Events

    • Use hybrid generators and battery packs for events to reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources.

    • Work with the architecture of towns and cities in a pop-up style, eliminating the need for built staging and modelling performances that can be held anywhere with minimal resources.

  5. Monitoring and Improving Environmental Impact

    • Use Julie’s Bicycle Creative Climate Tools to understand and track the carbon footprint of our projects.

    • Attend free net zero carbon training to stay informed about best practices and emerging sustainability strategies.

  6. Transparency and Advocacy

    • Evaluate and share our environmental efforts through blog posts and case studies.

    • Publicly communicate our deliberate ‘green’ creative choices through networks such as ITC, Julie’s Bicycle and other arts networks.

    • Specifically reference environmental thinking in any talks and presentations related to our work.

    •

Review and Accountability
We will regularly review and refine our environmental policy to ensure we are meeting our sustainability goals. As a flexible, freelance-based organisation, we will encourage all our creative collaborators to align with these values and work together towards a greener future.
