Are You Dancing?
Are You Dancing? is a brand-new, tourable, community-devised theatre piece that celebrates the joy of dance in all its forms. At its heart lies the stories of local people, their memories, their music, and the places where dancing has brought them together.
The piece follows the lives of different generations who have each found joy, love, and identity through dancing. From ballroom to breakdance, disco to folk, the project captures the evolution of music and movement, weaving together past and present in a powerful celebration of belonging.
Created hand-in-hand with participants, Are You Dancing? combines workshops, live DJs, and the voices of community members working with professional actors to create a one-of-a-kind, uplifting experience unique to every place it visits.
Are You Dancing? is a love letter to the enduring spirit of community, the power of movement, and the shared joy of dancing together.
The Story So Far ...
In spring 2026 in partnership with our former collaborators, Telford & Wrekin Council, following our work together in 2022 we created the first pilot of Are You Dancing?.
Participants took part in weekly sessions, learning dance styles of their choice whilst sharing personal stories inspired by the dance floor. Alongside this, a series of DJ workshops offered participants the chance to learn the art of turntablism.
The project culminated in a work-in-progress sharing at Dawley Town Hall followed by a DJ set by one of our participants and lots of dancing.
